What is Echocardiogram Test?
An echocardiogram test is a visual picture of your heartbeats. Your doctor will perform an echo test on you to picture the chambers and valves of your heart using ultrasonography (high-frequency sound waves) using a hand-held wand placed into your chest. This assists the doctor in determining how well your heart is pumping. Medical experts routinely combine echo with Doppler ultrasonography and color Doppler treatments to monitor blood flow across your heart’s valves. Echocardiography does not utilize any radiation. This separates an echo from other procedures that use little radiation, such as X-rays and CT scans.
